Summer shoe trends

There is a style to suit everyone, from the maximalist to the minimalist. The latter will rejoice at the news that the naked sandal is still very much en vogue (look to Saint Laurent and Amina Muaddi for these), updated slightly for the new season with a square toe.

Platform thongs are also a must for SS21, a continuation of the success of The Row’s Ginza sandals, which have been reissued in both black and white (I love ATP and STAUD for more affordable versions). Ugly trekking sandals are also a great option.

The maximalist amongst you will also love the feel-good pieces, dubbed thus thanks to extravagant embellishments such as rhinestones, beads and pearls as well as joy-inducing shades from pastels to neons.

Flat summer sandals

The pandemic has cemented the flat shoe as the shoe to live in. From logo slides (hi Chloé and Gucci) and monochrome mules (Proenza Schouler and Bottega Veneta) to barely-there straps (Porte & Paire and Aquazzura), this trend is anything but boring, though the comfort factor is undeniable.

Summer sandals with heels

This summer’s summer sandal offering is simply heaven for the stiletto-averse. There are wedge mules and espadrilles, fun kitten heels (look to By Far or Neous for this), and if you’re feeling extra fanciful, metallic and crystal-embellished heels are where it’s at.
