How did we not know?!
Wimbledon is back, with today marking the second week of the historic tournament.
Yes, making up for lost time during the pandemic, Wimbledon is back in full swing – featuring shock knock outs, Pimm’s and of course a lot of royal appearances.
The royal family are known to be Wimbledon fans, with the Duchess of Cambridge, patron of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, often watching from the Royal Box.
It was a revelation about the Royal Box rather than Kate Middleton however that made the most news, as it emerged that the seats weren’t only the best in the house in terms of view.
Apparently, inside the Royal Box are a lot of luxurious secrets – goody bags, a stunning afternoon tea and a flat screen TV built into the balcony so that you can watch the other matches on different courts at the same time.
Rather hilariously, the news wasn’t broken by the royal family at all, with David Beckham accidentally photographing the Royal Box’s TV in a selfie he took with his mum in the next row up last year.
‘350 days, 14 hours and 12 minutes between the last ball hit and when the next was meant to be,’ the Duchess of Cambridge narrated in a short film about the championships last year during the coronavirus-induced lockdown. ‘Over the years your support has shaped this historic event. No matter the time of day or the names on the scoreboard, you have always been there, come rain or shine. This year sadly though things are very different, but we will bide our time until we sit on the edge of our seats again and celebrate again. So, when the time is right and we open the gates, we will be back again and it will have been worth the wait.’
Well, that’s lovely and Wimbledon is officially back!
