Hurrah – Black Friday 2021 is nearly here, which is why here at team Marie Claire we’ve been working on rounding up a whole host of tempting discounts across a number of products (we’re looking at you, Glossier Black Friday deals, Lululemon deals and Jo Malone deals).
Fitness fanatic who’s keen to invest in your next smartwatch but not sure whether to invest in a Garmin or a Fitbit? Let me explain to you why, as a fitness editor, I’d opt for a Garmin. It’s the only tracker I’ve used for the past five years and I’ve used it to train for – and run – multiple marathons.

Garmin Black Friday deals
Garmin fitness trackers are respected industry-wide for the high quality of their trackers. The only slight hitch? They’re an investment, at anything from £200 to £800 a watch.
Not this Black Friday, with savings of up to 59%. That’s huge.
Garmin Venu Granite Blue & Silver – was £299.00, now £179.00
Save 33%
The Venu is beautiful, with a bright display face and features that’ll track your energy levels, Pulse Ox, respiration, menstrual cycle, stress, sleep, heart rate, hydration and more. There are more than 20 preloaded GPS and indoor sports apps, including yoga, running, pool swimming and more. It’s an all-rounder.
Garmin Vívoactive 3 Black Silicone Slate – was £299.99, now £138.00
Save 53%
If you’re after a simpler design with fewer features, opt for the Vívoactive. It’s battery life will last up to seven days, you’ll be able to track your workouts with an in-built heart rate monitor and GPS, plus you’ll get smartphone notifications, too. Neat.
Why is a Garmin better than a Fitbit?
So, why is a Garmin better than a Fitbit? If you’re a keen gym goer or a HIIT lover, you might prefer a Fitbit. It’s a great gadget and errs on the slightly cheaper side than a Garmin, plus tracks your heart rate, steps, gym sessions, and more.
But if you’re a runner, there are a handful of reasons why Garmin’s are better, in my opinion. Keen to track your 5km, 10km, half marathon, marathons and more? Then go for a Garmin. It’s got a bigger watch face, so you can see your stats more easily, and shows predictions for the above distances based on your training. It’s far easier to track your pace, as most Garmin models show your rolling pace on your screen, and train according to your heart rate, too, if that’s your thing.
Basically it’s just a bit more detailed and offers more in-depth analysis of your run. Also, mine seems fairly unbreakable and I’ve had no issues with it in the 5+ years I’ve been using it.
Happy sweating (and shopping). Don’t miss my guide to the best Christmas fitness gifts and fitness products to buy on Amazon, too.
