We’ve entered that time of the year. The nights have drawn in and there’s nothing really appealing about leaving the confines of your sofa. The only issue? Attempting to navigate through a seemingly endless scroll of options in order to find the perfect movie worth watching.

Not all films work for a grey day. A good rainy day movie should wrap you in coziness the way sipping hot chocolate underneath a wool blanket does. Fortunately, Netflix has you covered in that department. With a ton of movies just waiting to be watched, the streaming service has plenty of awesome options for when you just can’t deal with the weather.

Here are the best options for when the rain just won’t quit.

All The Bright Places

(2020)

If you already curled up with the novel by Jennifer Nivin, watch this (super, super sad) romance play out with Elle Fanning and Justice Smith.

Good Will Hunting

(1997)

The emotional rollercoaster that is Good Will Hunting is easy to fall into on a rainy day. In the movie, Matt Damon plays Will, a math prodigy who must decide between living his pre-planned easy, simple life, or using his brain for something else. Robin Williams will make you cry a rainstorm of tears.

The Notebook

(2004)

Proof that a down pour can be an aphrodisiac? Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ romantic (and super hot) make out session in the thunderstorm.Photo: Moviestore/REX/Shutterstock .

A Cinderella Story

(2004)

This is on the list because it contains one of my favourite weather-related quotes: “Waiting for you is like waiting for rain in this drought: Useless, and disappointing.” Wise words from Ms. Hilary Duff!

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind

(2004)

Honestly, you’ll be crying so much over this gorgeous, dreamy breakup movie it’s best that you can’t go outside and see the world through puffy red eyes.

Mamma Mia!

(2008)

If ABBA isn’t the soundtrack to your rainy day, you’re doing something wrong. This jukebox musical is set on a Greek island so you can fantasise about better weather, but also has a warm-and-fuzzy family message to keep you cocooned in good vibes.

Definitely, Maybe

(2008)

In this rom-com, Ryan Reynolds plays a dad tasked with telling his daughter about how he met her mom…and the two other loves of his life. If your idea of a perfect day is Reynolds narrating a tale of epic romance, you won’t even remember it’s raining outside.

A Wrinkle In Time

(2018)

Ava DuVernay’s fantasy epic is about finding the light amongst darkness. It’s positive message will comfort you — as will the epic trio of Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon.

Christopher Robin

(2018)

Ewan McGregor plays a grown-up version of Winnie the Pooh’s best friend, who reunites with the yellow bear in order to reclaim some of his long-forgotten childhood. You’ll want to snuggle up with your best furry friend and pretend they’re a visitor from the Hundred Acre Woods.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

(2018)

If you can’t venture out into the real world, at least you can stay in this fictional one with Noah Centineo. Here, the actor plays Peter Kavinsky, who strikes up a pact with Lara Jean (Lana Condor) to “fake date” each other. Obviously, real feelings are caught — and you will really, truly swoon.

Someone Great

(2019)

The weather may be too awful to go out and have a night on the town with your real friends, but hanging out with characters portrayed by Brittany Snow, Gina Rodriguez and DeWanda Wise on one crazy New York City day is the next best thing.

Unicorn Store

(2019)

Brie Larson’s feature directorial debut is all about letting your imagination run wild, which is the perfect theme for a rainy day where you have to make your own fun indoors.

Paddington (2014)

I mean, does it get any comfier than watching the quintessentially British antics of our favourite rain mac-clad bear? Surprisingly moving and the cast is just *chef’s kiss*

Chocolat (2000)

Romance! Chocolate! Juliette Binoche! A mother and daughter open a confectionary in a conservative village in France and proceed to win everyone over. It’s a full concoction of cosiness.

Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?
