A guide to your new favourite brands
While we could argue there’s still a lot of work to do to make our industry more size inclusive, plus size clothing brands have come a long way.
Thanks to models and style icons including Crystal Renn, Ashley Graham and Paloma Elsesser (who recently landed her first Vogue cover) walking the shows at fashion week, we’re slowly seeing designers create fashion-forward styles that aren’t just catered towards size 6-8 women. Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty shows prove that clothes can look beautiful on all sizes, shapes and ages.
Over on the high-street, there are plenty of plus size clothing brands offering trend-led choices to their customers without breaking the bank.
What are the best plus size brands?
While Simply Be and Evans will always be plus size staples, there are dozens more brands you can shop online, specialising in anything from dresses to shoes and lingerie. Here’s a round-up of some favourites.
1. 11 Honoré
Designed to dress women sizes 12 to 24, 11 Honoré is your one stop shopping destination if you want to invest in designer labels including Badgley Mischka, Carolina Herrera and Christopher Kane. The site also has its own affordable label for beautiful fashion-led pieces.
2. Coyan
Simplicity is at the heart of COYAN, a premium brand for women offering a tightly curated collection of silk dresses crafted in the US in limited batches. A great sustainable option.
3. Reformation
We all know and love Reformation for its gorgeous summer dresses and well-cut jeans. Each style goes up to a size 16.
4. Mango
Formerly known as Violeta by Mango, this range is now fully integrated within the Mango collections, catering to sizes XXS (4) to 4XL (26).
5. The Hour
Focusing on ‘confidence and identity, the brand is dedicated to creating contemporary plus size pieces that drape, frame and flatter the fuller figure’ – The Hour is available in sizes 14-26 and features a covetable mix of wardrobe essentials from tailored jackets to dresses.
6. Marina Rinaldi
Part of the Italian Max Mara group, Marina Rinaldi specialises in high-end stylish curve clothing, in sizes 12 to 28. Shop here for the most amazing occasionwear.
7. Savage x Fenty
Savage x Fenty by Rihanna celebrates fearlessness, confidence and inclusivity. You will not find a single boring lingerie piece on there.
8. Simply Be
Simply Be has been ahead of the plus size fashion curve for quite a while, and is one of the brands with the most styles to shop from (1,000s of products last time we checked). Shop party dresses, checked blazers and more in sizes 12–32.
9. New Look
New Look’s sizing goes up to a UK32 on most of its styles, which means you can shop the same trendy pieces as everyone else rather than having to go to a different section. But where New Look really wins is the wide fit shoes, which can be hard to come by elsewhere.
10. DEAR CURVES
Dearcurves is the go to brand for contemporary, minimalistic plus size women’s wear. The brand’s signature aesthetic is the creative integration of carefully sourced premium fabrics in perfect harmony with traditional African inspired wax prints. It stocks sizes 14 to 24.
11. Marks & Spencer
We’re a little obsessed with M&S’s Curve collection, which includes trend-led pieces in sizes 18-32, carefully tailored as opposed to simply made bigger.
12. TU Clothing
For affordable plus size clothing, head straight to Tu Clothing’s Plus Size section (their petite selection is also great).
13. Evans
You can’t go wrong with Evans, another one of the plus size originals. It covers everything from party dresses and workwear to coats and lingerie, for sizes 14 to 28.
14. Anna Scholz
Anna is one of the pillars of the designer plus size industry; a Central St Martins graduate, Anna has over two decades in the business – no mean feat for any plus size label. Famed for her gorgeously unique prints (designed in house) and easy to wear silhouettes, Anna’s pieces are always timeless.
15. Universal Standard
Universal Standard is all about giving the option for elevated essentials for women size 14 to 32 and unsurprisingly everyone has gone crazy for this luxe basics line.
16. Yoek
Perfect for printed and embellished tunics, palazzo trousers and fun prints, Yoek is also known for its leather line.
17. ASOS Curve
The selection of clothing at ASOS Curve just gets better and better. First off there is ASOS’ own range, which covers everything from casual staples to plus-size wedding guest dresses, and then there are all the other plus size brands the site stocks, which equals to over 100 brands and 4000+ styles.
18. Studio Eight
The sister brand to Phase Eight, Studio Eight is their first foray into plus size fashion. Keeping to the aesthetic of the Phase Eight signature, you can expect great workwear separates, glamorous evening wear, tape wear embellishment and fantastic weekend casuals.
19. River Island
River Island’s plus section is a treasure trove of statement pieces. From throw-on floral dresses to denim jackets, there is a wide selection to choose from, for sizes 18-28.
Does Zara have plus sizes?
Zara has received backlash in the past for not being more size inclusive – most of its items are available from sizes S to L. Now it has slowly and quietly started adding extra sizes, which range from XS to XXL, on certain items, but you’ll jave to look for them. The best way to do so is by filtering items by size.
Do any designers do plus size?
More and more high end designers are expanding their size range to cater for all their customers. The likes of Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Ganni, Diane Von Furstenberg, The Row and Erdem offer their designs up to sizes UK22-XXL.
