How The Kat Von D VS Jeffree Star Drama Started

It all started last Tuesday, when Kat Von D, who is well known for her “bold, unexpected” makeup products, publicly disassociated herself from Youtuber and former friend Jeffree Star on Instagram. She accused him of using and “promoting drug use, racism, and bullying.”

She also apologized to all her followers who came to know the controversial makeup guru through her.

Jeffree Star Fights Back

Usually outspoken, Jeffree fired back at his ex-friend with a series of tweets, implying that Kat grew jealous of his success after launching his makeup line. He also encouraged everyone to ignore the accusations against him.

The Kat Von D vs Jefree Star Drama Intensifies

Answering Jeffree’s shady tweets, the makeup expert and tattoo artist threw him another challenge, threatening to post a screenshot of the said heated text conversation they exchanged.

She further accused him of basically being a thief, after he reportedly dismissed her when she accused him of not giving credit to the artist when he used an artwork for his line. He also supposedly didn’t pay for it.

The Twitter World Reacts

Not surprisingly, the makeup enthusiastic Twitter world reacted to the simmering tensions. Some were in disbelief at the sudden feud.

Others were just too excited about the upcoming throwdown on both sides.

Users who had personal grudges against Jeffree Star supported Kat Von D’s claims and shared their own 2 cents about the issue.

Kat Von D Takes The Fight To Youtube

Staying true to her promise, Kat Von D released a 14-minute long video on YouTube which further dragged her former friend through the mud.

She mentioned how she went “to such great lengths” just to help Jeffree get a free meeting with the factory that made her Everlasting Liquid Lipstick formula. She also gave more details about why she accused him of being a thief. He reportedly used BJ Betts’ design for his makeup line but didn’t acknowledge or pay him for his efforts.

“You can’t sit there and post all these videos of you, like ‘Get Ready With Me in My Rolls Royce,’ and then not pay a guy who worked really hard for you,” she said, after exposing that the famed makeup guru blocked her artist friend when he tried to contact him about the artwork.

Update:

It seemed like the Kat Von D VS Jefree Star drama was about to die down even after the latter posted a reply video to his former friend on YouTube. In the said video, he pointed out that he did pay BJ Betts for his commissioned work and that he’s honestly confused about the sudden outburst from Kat Von D.

Prior to the video being posted, however, Kat Von D revealed on Twitter that the makeup guru had tried to reach out to her graphic designer friend for a settlement an hour after her revelation.

Is the makeup war between the former BFFs finally over?

Apparently, not yet.

According to gossip blog Perez Hilton, another supposedly unpaid graphic designer came forward to accuse Jeffree Star of not paying a work he commissioned for him a couple of years back.

Christopher Wilcock followed suit and revealed his plight on Instagram. In another post, he pointed out that he had spend years trying to track down the said makeup artist and his team for the unpaid work he did for them.

After such overwhelming support regarding my previous post, and allowing #jeffreestar to finally respond to the original allegations I am taking this opportunity to tell my story. In 2006, Jeffree approached me by MySpace with regards to helping him design his new clothing/merchandise line. I was a student at the time studying a BA in Graphic Design in Plymouth, UK, and having someone with such a large following show an interest in my work was flattering to say the very least. Over a course of a month or two we liaised, me sending him designs and ideas for his new range. However, things quickly went cold, i.e. Jeffree begun to ignore my emails. Sometime later, he launched his clothing line, and to my horror saw that designs and concepts that I had created for him were within this range. The attached image is of one of many designs supplied to Jeffree that year, but most important as it is the iconic eyelash curler, which quickly became his trademark image, appearing on most of his, at the time current, and future range. This image was created by myself in freehand within Illustrator, and as you can see is identical. Furthermore concepts I had created were stolen or replicated throughout the designs. Fortunately, I used this opportunity to form part of my final major project. As such, correspondence between Jeffree and myself was supplied and retained in a physical format. In addition, I have reached out to Jeffree and his management countless times via email and social media (which after I subsequently was blocked from shortly after doing so). I was not hungry for money, but simply the principal had shocked me and I had learnt a hard lesson (which remains with me to this day) when dealing with clients. I understand that @bjbetts and Jeffree have resolved any difference they may have had. But I can’t help, given my personal experience, but question if this issues would have been so promptly resolved without @thekatvond’s input. #jeffreepaybj #paybj #jeffreepaycw #paycw
