“Beetlejuice Lips” is the latest TikTok sensation that  took the beauty world by storm with its creepy yet intriguing design. Inspired by the 1988 film Beetlejuice, the makeup trend is about creating bold, cracked lips that resemble the character’s black-and-white striped suit. As many users jumped on the trend, an unexpected twist surfaced. Achieving the Beetlejuice lips is nearly impossible for people with lip fillers. As a result, this sparked discussions about beauty standards, authenticity, and social media pressure.

Beetlejuice Lips: The Viral TikTok Trend Shaking Up Beauty Norms

What Are Beetlejuice Lips?

Beetlejuice lips became a viral sensation after TikTok creator Hello Adri shared a makeup tutorial that blew up and gained over 40 million views. The look itself is simple:  Apply a bright lip color like green or purple then layer a darker shade on top. After that, press your lips together to create creases, and dab dark eyeshadow or pigment into those lines. When you relax your lips, it creates a jagged, crackled effect that resembles Beetlejuice’s striped suit.

Beauty influencers, including stars like Jeffree Star, jumped on the trend. Some pulled it off, but those with lip fillers ran into issues. The trend relies on natural lip creases for the striped effect, but fillers smooth out those creases, making it hard to get the desired look.  Consequently, this led to some funny and embarrassing makeup fails and left many influencers frustrated.

The Downside of Lip Fillers

Lip fillers, typically made from hyaluronic acid, plump the lips and smooth out wrinkles.  Despite their popularity in the beauty world, they don’t work well with the Beetlejuice lips trend. The crackled look heavily relies on the presence of natural lip lines. Unfortunately,  fillers erase these lines.

Even Jeffree Star struggled with this. Instead of the cool striped effect,  his lips ended up a blotchy mess. Fans quickly pointed out that his fillers were the issue, which added to the growing online amusement. One viewer joked, “It’s funny to see influencers struggle with a trend that celebrates natural beauty!”  As more and more influencers tried the trend, it became clearer that lip fillers and Beetlejuice lips just don’t mix.

Authenticity vs. Enhancement: The Bigger Conversation

The Beetlejuice lips trend opened a bigger discussion about the pressure on influencers to always look flawless. Over the years, many influencers have pushed unrealistic beauty standards. This often included relying on lip fillers, Botox, or plastic surgery.

Unfortunately for enhanced influencers, the Beetlejuice lips trend highlighted natural features. As a result, it inadvertently called out influencers who previously altered their looks. Enhancements that once stood out now made it harder for them to join in on the latest viral challenge. In fact, this shift is refreshing for some. One viral comment on X (formerly Twitter) said, “Finally, a trend for people with normal lips! It’s great seeing influencers struggle for a change.”

A Shift in Beauty Trends?

The rise of Beetlejuice lips might point to a bigger change in beauty standards. For years, the beauty industry has pushed for flawless, unreachable looks—smooth skin, full lips, and wrinkle-free faces. But with trends like this, more people appreciate natural features like wrinkles, freckles, and skin texture.

Even better, more individuals are now choosing less invasive beauty routines, with some even choosing to dissolve their fillers to return to their natural look.

Experts have noticed this change as well. Dr. Bashir, a cosmetic surgeon, observed a rise in patients asking to dissolve their lip fillers. “More clients are embracing their original features and requesting natural looks. Trends like Beetlejuice lips are driving this movement,” Dr. Bashir explained.

A Trend That Shakes Up Beauty Norms

The Beetlejuice lips trend became more than just a fun Halloween makeup trick. It’s become a viral sensation that started a bigger conversation about beauty. With Halloween approaching, Beetlejuice lips will likely stay popular, but its real impact might be its role in shifting beauty norms. More focus is leaning  toward authenticity and natural beauty and pulling people away from the pressure to look flawless.

This trend shows that the pursuit of perfection can sometimes backfire and give way for  real, unedited features to shine. Whether it’s just a fad or a lasting change, Beetlejuice lips remind us that beauty doesn’t have to be picture-perfect.
