I have always talked about makeup and how to use them, but I rarely talk about removing them correctly. So today, I’m sharing with you a tutorial on how to remove mascara.

When I think about removing mascara, one of the things that come to mind is how messy and damaging it is to the skin around my eye area and lashes. I know putting on makeup products without proper care can be damaging to your skin too, so we have to make sure we do not add unnecessary damage anymore.

I was thinking– the best product to remove mascara is something that allows you to take off the product without rubbing your eye. I came across this video tutorial by the awesome Lisa Eldridge and it just makes so much sense.

How To Remove Mascara and Makeup Quick and Easy

I was blown away by this technique and I hope you are too because this technique takes out a lot of makeup without taking away moisture on your skin. I have been a professional artist for a long time now and discovering new techniques makes me really happy because it helps me do things easier. Less stress, I love it!

What You Need to remove your mascara and the rest of your makeup:

  • Micellar Water
  • Cotton Rounds

Step 1: Tie Hair

First, tie your hair. I know it’s the easiest thing to do but girls forget. Believe me, I forget too. So to be sure, I’m including this as the first step on how to remove mascara.

Step 2: Bioderma Sensibio

The Bioderma Sensibio Micellar Water is a staple in most of professional makeup artists’ kits. It’s basically a facial cleanser/makeup remover with skin care benefits. Oh, did I mention this product requires no rinsing? Yup, that’s how convenient this is! One 250 ml bottle costs around $30-33 and you can get it here.

Step 3: Split The Cotton Round into Two

Grab a cotton round and take the edges together and pull them apart to make two!

Step 4: Split into Halves

Now that you have two thinner cotton rounds, take one of the two and cut in half creating semi-circle shapes.

Step 5: Soak

Soak both cut semi-circle pieces in micellar water.

Step 6: Place Under Eye

So, how to remove mascara and the rest of your makeup without further harming your skin using the micellar water? Place both under your eyes directly under your lower lash. This will prevent the mascara from smudging all over your eye and it also doubles as a soak to your lower lashes.

Step 7: Soak Eyelashes

Once the under eye patches are in place, grab a pair of cotton rounds and soak them in micellar water as well and cover your eyes with it to soak the eyelashes in the solution. This is how to remove mascara the best way.

Step 8: Very Gently Ease if Off

After soaking your eyelashes for a good amount of time, depending on how you see fit, very gently ease it off and you’ll find your mascara and false lashes have come off.

Clean and Fresh

Wipe off the rest of your makeup and you’ll feel clean and fresh in no time.

I think this method is awesome. It takes away all the rubbing of delicate skin around your eyes and effectively removes the makeup. So now that you know about the awesome powers of micellar water, I’d like to add, however, that it does not replace the cleansing that water and soap does to your face.
