Color correcting isn’t new to the makeup world nor is it that hard to work with. Scroll down to see our favorite color correcting makeup products.

Color Correcting Makeup Products Worth Checking Out

Color correction in makeup artistry is to neutralize a hyperpigmentation. Sometimes, concealers and proper foundation application aren’t enough to cover discolorations like acne scars, rosacea, sun spots, etc. The principle of color correcting makeup is to cancel out contrasting hues. For example, a green corrector can mute any redness caused by irritation or acne; red, orange or peach can be used to cover dark circles; and purple is used to brighten sallowness – depending on whether you’re fair, olive or dark.

Over the years, the demand for innovative color correcting products has grown, forcing cosmetic companies to search for new formulas, packaging, and functions – just like the new product launches from Maybelline. Nowadays, it’s not just concealer we’re seeing on the market. We’re seeing orange, red, purple, and green color correctors that look more like toys than makeup products. Then again, aren’t all makeup products toys?

Now that you know the basics, we’re going to break down these color correcting products to help you find the perfect formula for you.

Yves Saint Laurent – Touche Éclat Neutralizers

These pen type color correctors are the bright and colorful version of the cult-favorite, Touche Éclat, but with neutralizing power. It comes in a light liquid formula with a sheer finish and is perfect for fair to medium skin tones.

Algenist – Reveal Color Correcting Drops

This is a color corrector in a new, innovative liquid form. You add drops of this to your makeup or skincare products to balance out uneven skin tone or you can apply this to your face using a sponge and correct areas where discoloration is more evident. This does not; however, spot corrects, but is rather used more on a larger skin area where correction is needed like redness around the forehead or sallowness under the eyes.

NYX Color Correcting Concealer

I just love how NYX has definitely stepped up their game when it comes to accessible and affordable professional grade products. This color correcting palette is one of them, it comes with color correctors and 2 shades for medium skin mostly. But the correctors are effective on a wider variety of skin tones. I have to say that the consistency is a bit sheerer and creamy than I would’ve liked for a cream-based product but this works really well for the price point it offers.

ELF Corrective Concealer

This ELF Corrective concealer palette is a good piece of purchase for beginners playing around with color correctors. The darker salmon concealer is really good under the eye, but since the product is a bit sheerer than expected, you need a good amount for covering most bluish discoloration under the eye. Be careful of creasing though, so I suggest to blend out the product more before setting it with powder.

Cover FX Correct Clicks

These color correcting sticks by Cover FX are highly pigmented, creamy color correcting makeup that can be blended out easily. Their pigmentation also makes it easier to work this product on a wider range of skin tones.

Lancôme – Miracle CC Cushion Color Correcting Primers

Lancome’s popular cushion compact just got colorful. This product claims to be highly pigmented with a sheer finish and comes in four shades designed to fight dark circles, dullness, discoloration, and redness. Although I would say this product would be more for personal makeup kits than for a professional one because of the way it’s packaged which means you will have to “double dip” the sponge that comes with it and is unhygienic when used on multiple people.

Tarte – Wipeout Color Correcting Palette

If your favorite kind of color corrector is one that is thick and creamy, this palette is for you. It melts right into your skin and feels as if you’re wearing nothing at all, it also comes with concealer shades that area highly blendable, plus that packaging is totally beautiful.

Marc Jacobs Covert Stick

These cover(t) sticks from Marc Jacobs is such an innovative product. I love how they come in big stick forms and from actual testing they are creamy and beautiful to touch. Don’t let the marble effect on the packaging fool you because these babies are so pigmented and have such a creamy texture I almost want to keep rubbing them on my skin. Definitely an innovative product to try out for your color correcting makeup game.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Concealers

This rather new formulation of Ultra HD concealers come in a wide variety of shades and color correctors. I’ve personally tried this product on and this is one of my favorites in my kit. It’s light and creamier, better under the eye than most and it’s hardly detectable on film or photos. Definitely get this if you want a tried and tested brand.

Urban Decay – Naked Skin Color Correcting Fluids

These color correcting fluids have the same formula and consistency as their Naked Skin Concealers counterparts. They blur out flaws and discoloration and much like their concealer counterpart are pretty effective. I love how they come in pastel shades because it means that you will need less time blending them out and sheering out the product.

Stila Cosmetics – Correct and Perfect Palette

Stila is one of my favorite brands so when I heard they have an all around color correcting makeup palette I was excited to try it out and I love it. I love that this palette includes 5 color correcting shades in cream form and a pressed powder form of a purple corrector which makes a lot of sense because for dullness all over the face, you don’t need a heavy cream type product, just a dusting of this purple corrector and your skin is immediately lifted up for a brighter and livelier color.
