Watercolor Makeup Tutorial Perfect For Summer

Maybe thinking of watercolor makeup makes you a little intimidated, but it is not at all that hard to do. It doesn’t take any special skill or talent, given that you already know how to use makeup.

This simple watercolor makeup tutorial by the beautiful Jessica Clements will show you exactly how easy and quick it is. It’s time to create your own watercolor makeup look that’s perfect for summer.

Wearable Watercolor Eye Makeup Tutorial

Here’s What You Will Need:

  • Face Primer – YSL, Touche Eclat Blur Primer
  • Liquid Foundation – Guerlain, Lingerie de Peau Natural Perfection Foundation
  • Eyeshadow Tint – Giorgio Armani, Eye Tint
  • Eyeshadow Cream – Tom Ford Cream Powder Eye Color
  • Highlighter – Dior Diorskin Nude Air Luminzer Powder
  • Mascara – YSL The Shock Mascara
  • Blush – Burberry Light Glow Natural Blush
  • Setting Powder – Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Powder
  • Lipstick – Givenchy, Le Rouge
  • Finishing Powder – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Before we dive into the actual tutorial, note that it is best not to use eye brushes for this look to really create the soft, unfinished watercolor makeup effect on the eyes.

Since this is a look perfect for summer, it’s best to make sure to prep and hydrate your skin. Take time to prep your skin before basking under the sun to make sure that it is well nourished. This also makes the look fresh and glowy.

Step 1: Prime the Canvas


Use a primer to make sure the makeup stays put even under the hot summer sun. In this tutorial, Jessica used the YSL, Touche Eclat Blur Primer which also helps with blurring out pores or any texture on the skin.

Step 2: Perfect the Canvas


To really bring the watercolor makeup look to the forefront, do away with a full coverage foundation look. Instead, go for a sheer to medium coverage and blend as necessary. Be sure to set and mattify with powder to take away any shine.

Step 3: Base Color | Watercolor Makeup on Eyes


Start with a base color on the eyes. This will help the other colors show through, in this tutorial, Jessica used the Giorgio Armani Eye Tint in shade 24.

Step 4: Contour Color | Watercolor Makeup on Eyes


The next step is to create a contour on the eyes to create depth and to define the eye shape. The color used in this tutorial is the shade 23 from the Giorgio Armani Eye Tint collection. It is a darker brown color perfect for creating a definition in the crease area.

Step 5: Light Peach Watercolor Makeup Effect


The first watercolor makeup will be placed on the other thirds of the lid and the inner corner of the bottom lashes. Pick a shimmery peach color and swipe over those parts to create an ethereal highlight in those areas.

The Tom Ford Cream Powder Eye Color in the shade Golden Peach is the product of choice for this tutorial.

Step 6: Light Blue Watercolor Makeup Effect


To create a more watercolor makeup look pick a blue eyeshadow shade that will pair well with the peach color. Apply the blue eyeshadow to the crease of the inner thirds of the lid space and to the outer thirds of the bottom lashes.

The Giorgio Armani, Eye Tint in Aqua was used for this tutorial.

Step 7: Inner Corner Shimmer


Make sure to help bring out the colors of this eye look by putting an inner corner highlight. Any white gold shimmer will do perfectly fine, in the case of this tutorial, Jessica used the Dior Skin Luminizer. She also used this lightly in the center of the lid.

Step 8: Frame the Eyes


Frame the eyes by applying a volumizing and lengthening mascara such as the YSL The Shock Mascara. Make sure to create a fluffy look to the lashes because this helps put together this fresh and wearable watercolor-inspired makeup look.

Step 9: Rosy Cheeks


This look wouldn’t be complete without color on the cheeks. Using a peach-colored blusher, apply lightly on the apples of your cheeks.

Don’t miss putting on a contour color as well, apply lightly on the hollows of the cheeks and on the perimeter of the face.

Step 10: Embrace The Sun


Catch the light with a light swatch of reflective highlights on the high points of the cheeks, the nose, and the cupid’s bow.

Jessica also used the Hourglass Ambient Lighting palette all over the face for that beautiful finish to the face.

Step 11: Kiss Color


Using a rose-colored lipstick lightly apply the color on the lips and smudge it using your fingertips for that blurred lipstick effect. Doing this makes the whole look effortlessly put together.
