In between lockdowns and loungewear, there isn’t much to be excited about at the moment, but there is one major thing that I’m starting to look forward to, and that’s floral dresses for spring.

High-street and designer brands have slowly started dropping their new collections, and I can assure will be both metaphorically and literally blossoming very soon.

Floral dresses for weddings

Yes, I know it’s optimistic but it doesn’t hurt to plan ahead for wedding guest season. If you want to stand out from the crowd, do take the ‘feel good dress’ trend seriously and opt for loud prints and bold colours. This season I’m especially loving pinks and reds.

Designers such as Marni, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and Badgley Mischka embraced tropical vibes on their SS21 catwalks, giving a fresh twist on somewhat stale florals.

That said, if you’re more of a wallflower (pun intended, sorry), then fear not, there are still plenty of subtle ways to do florals this season. Brands such as Aje and Rixo have some clever ways of avoiding the saccharine, thanks to abstract prints, muted colours and patchwork details.

What do you wear with a floral dress?

Don’t feel like you’ve wasted money by buying a dress you’ll only wear once. The beauty of most floral dresses is that they can easily be dressed down.

I personally love pairing mine with an ugly sandal, be it a chunky flip flop or Birkenstock style flats. Pre-sandal season, I’ll be wearing mine with some track-sole boots to counter the overly-feminine feel.
